Over the years, I have developed a series of rubrics that I use to assess the short and long projects. These rubrics are constantly evolving, but they have provided substantial information about my students’ abilities and areas of weakness. I evaluate the rubrics scores each semester to track trends in my students’ work and compare information I gather from their rubric scores with other types of assessment, final exam scores in this case, and overall attendance. This information helps me to plan for upcoming semesters and serves as a better indicator of effectiveness than student evaluations.
